    Ludwig Meidner (1884-1966) was a German graphic artist, painter and man of letters.

    From 1916 to 1918 Meidner made military service as an interpreter in a POW camp near Cottbus, where he began his literary activity. In February 1918, followed by a first solo exhibition at Paul Cassirer in Berlin and then at the Kestner-Gesellschaft, Hannover.

    In his late work Meidner painted numerous self-portraits and depictions of public figures. These are naturalistic and still show only the details of the brushwork, the expressive gestures.
