About Ludwig Muhrmann

  • Biography

Born in Iserlohn, Ludwig Muhrmann was a pupil of Robert Sterl and Karl Bantzer at the Dresden Academy. He lived and worked in Dresden.

Muhrmann became known for his light, atmospheric cityscapes and wonderfully composed still lifes. He is the typical representative of a cultivated impressionism, which was cultivated in Dresden at the beginning of the 20th century.

Our painting, Dresden, with its well-known silhouette under a high sky, masterfully reproduces the very special light over the river.
