Ludwig Sckell (1833-1912)

He was born in October 1833 on Lock Mountain in Bavaria to famed horticulturist Carl Ludwig Sckell and was the father of Louis Sckell who also gained great acclaim as a landscape artist. He spent most of his adult life in Munich Germany where he gained fame as one of the great landscape painters of his time. He was an honorary member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

The work of this well listed 19th century German landscape artist is unmistakable. With a hint of the Barbizon style, his bold colors and perfect proportions combined with a naturalistic perspective create masterful compositions. His pieces were often diminutive in size adding to their charm.
