    Born in San Sebastian, at age nine years he moved with his family to Madrid. He began working in his father's architecture studio, where he trained in avant-garde art. He enrolled in Fine Arts in Madrid and expanded his studies in France, Italy and England with scholarships granted by the Spanish and Italian governments.

    Around 1942, and under the leadership and influence of Benjamín Palencia, he participated in the second School of Vallecas, a group that served as a base in the fifties at the so-called School of Madrid. At that stage he evolved from initial Cubism to an expressionism of Baroque compositions of figures.
