At some point after 1537, it is likely Morales studied in Seville with the Flemish Mannerist painter Peeter de Kempeneer (known in Spain as Pedro de Campana. Morales was also in contact with Portugese painting, particularly that of Frei Carlos and the Evoran school; his work also shows an awareness of German and Flemish prints. Morales is known in Spain as "El Divino", explained by the exclusive religious character of his body of work which succeeded in giving brilliant expression to the impassioned spirituality of Spanish society, an achievement...
