    Manfred Böttcher 1933 Oberdorla/Thuringia - 2001 Berlin German painter, draughtsman and graphic artist. Studied 1950-55 in Dresden at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste, among others under Wilhelm Lachnit.

    He was awarded the Käthe Kollwitz Prize in 1984. His works, mostly richly nuanced oil paintings, show brightly colored and loose depictions of reality. Alongside Harald Metzkes, he has been considered the main representative of the "Berlin School of Painting" since the 1960s.
