    Manuel Álvarez Losada was born on 6 August 1945 in Sant Feliu de Codines, near Barcelona, and received his early artistic training at the Salesian Vocational Schools of Sarrià, where he studied clay modelling and sculpture beginning in 1963. Between 1968 and 1971 he worked across a range of sculptural practices, including statuary, religious imagery, relief work, busts, and ornamental carving, while also undertaking professional projects in interior and industrial design. His first solo exhibition took place in 1971, marking the beginning of a career that would expand internationally.
