The artist understood the sea and was able to fully convey the meaning and power of this element. He devoted all his talent to navy – already in his youth he took vows of artistic service to the Polish sea, which he remained faithful to the end of his work. He began his artistic studies in 1907 at the Academy of Decorative and Fine Arts in Nuremberg and continued in Berlin. He traveled a lot, looking for new motives and inspirations. He painted landscapes from Europe, Istanbul (where he stayed from 1911 to 15), Jerusalem, Persia, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Mongolia; he was in the Caucasus and Tibet.
