    As a third generation wood turner, Matt Moulthrop has spent his entire life surrounded by wood. He is continuing the legacy of the Moulthrop family by turning simple, elegant forms that capture and enhance the natural beauty of the material.

    Matt learned his woodturning skills the old fashioned way, by apprenticing with a master. He spent a total of nine years apprenticing first with his grandfather Edward Moulthrop, and then his father Philip Moulthrop. He learned from them not just the techniques and tools, but also how to see the potential in a piece of wood. At the same time that he was developing his skills as an artist, he was completing his college education.
