    Maurice Hagemans was a Belgian painter and watercolorist who was born in 1852 in Liège. Though born in a banking family, from 1873 Hagemans had a self-taught occupation with painting.

    In 1874 he became an acquaintance with Félicien Rops and settled in Anseremme in the province of Namur. Here he became friends with Périclès Pantazis. Later he went to Brussels and became a member of the group "Cercle des Aquarellistes et des Aquafortistes Belges" and "Les Hydrophiles". He also took several trips to Scandinavia and Germany. From from 1886 he was a resident in Ixelles.

    His son Paul Hagemans also became a painter and participated in the exhibitions in the Munich Glass Palace between 1890-99. source: Thieme-Becker and Wikipedia
