About Max Albert Carlier

    Max Carlier was a Belgian still life painter. Born in Tourcoing,
    Belgium in 1872, he was a painter of the Belgian School, which most
    typically executed still lifes of florals and fruits. From time to
    time, he also painted genre scenes and interiors.

    He lived and worked primarily in Brussels, but traveled extensively
    throughout Europe, especially Italy. Carlier also lived and
    worked in Brittany for a short period of time.

    Working with a warm palette, Carlier painted still lifes in the Neo-Dutch tradition. This tradition took on force towards the end of the 18th century with
    artists such as Gérard van Spaendonck, Jan van Huysum and Rachel
    Roysch.
