    German landscape and animal painter. Born in 1884 in Fürstenberg/Oder (now Eisenhüttenstadt), lived until 1955 in Haimhausen near Dachau. Trained at Adolf Schlabitz's private painting school in Berlin, studied 1902-04 at Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Berlin-Charlottenburg, then 1904-13 at Munich Academy under Ludwig von Herterich and Heinrich von Zügel.

    Studied in Paris 1909-10 at "La Palette" and Colarossi studio. Military service 1911-12 and 1914-17. Founded a painters' colony in Haimhausen and a private painting school in 1925.

    Exhibited 1938-44 at the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich. Member of the Reich Association of German Visual Artists. Honorary citizen of Würth am Rhein in 194...
