    Max Hanger Sr. is a German painter who specialized in animalistic performances, particularly using various species of birds. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and was the father of Max Hänger II, also known as Max Hänger Junior. His works were influenced by the Dutch art of the seventeenth century, especially the paintings of Melchior de Hondecoeter and his circle. He explicitly referred to the so-called "Bird kingdoms" widespread in Dutch art.
