About Mi Zeng

  • Biography

Zeng Mi, born in 1933, is an ink painting painter from China Academy of Art. From the 1980s on, he began to integrate his own painting style with that of Huang Binhong, a painting master who used to live in Hangzhou.

Huang was as popular as Qi Baishi, an influential Chinese painter noted for the whimsical and playful style of his ink painting works. The two were dubbed “Northern Qi and Southern Huang”, a reflection of their unparalleled status in modern art. Zeng was considered an inheritor of Huang.

His paintings switched between realism and abstraction and were characterized by heavier ink and majestic momentum. He usually splashes and soaks ink on paper to create different visual effects.
