Michalis Economou was born in Piraeus in 1888. He died in Athens in 1933. The first painting lessons he took were from Volonaki. He studied painting at the Ecole des Beaux - Arts (1909 - 1913).

From his exclusive theme of topography. one can discern his enthusiasm for the exteriors of the places he paints. In the early effects of the painting ypaithriston is obvious. In essence, however, the work takes a different turn. The blossoming of duplicity that artist shows works in most of the mature style painter who does not paint what he sees, but sees what he paints.
