    Fray Miguel de Herrera was a prolific Novohispano painter who made both canvases with religious motifs and portraits. Some of his main works are in the National Museum of History, a portrait of Benedict XIII and one of Philip II.

    Toussaint considered that de Herrera's best painting was the portrait of the girl Maria Josepha de Aldaco and Fagoaga, from 1746.
