    Mischa Richter immigrated to America from Russia as a young boy and
    became a noted New Yorker cartoonist and liberal intellectual. Richter was best known for his cartoons in The New Yorker magazine although his work also appeared in the Saturday Evening Post, Colliers, Esquire and other magazines. He also had a distinguished painting career.

    He died of a heart attack in Provincetown, Mass., on March 23, 2001.
