About Nayland Blake

  • Biography

Enlisting his now signature character of the rabbit, Nayland Blake offers a picture of the labyrinth of emotional and sexual interactions with its codified roles and appetites.

In objects and images he scrutinizes current psychological parlance of sexual identity, co-dependency, dominance and monogamy. Blake's mirrors play with clichés and accepted tools for self-examination in ways that have universal and autobiographical readings.
Blake was born in New York City, and lives and works there. He studied at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, earning an M.F.A. degree in 1984. He also studied at Bard College, Annandale-On-Hudson, New York, earning a B.F.A. Degree in 1982.
