Born in 1961 in Senegal, Ndary Lo lives and works in Rufisque, in the Dakar region of Western Senegal. Lo graduated from the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Dakar after first studying English. He has dedicated a large part of his artistic career to exploring the human form through the use of iron. He has mastered working with cast-away metals, which he transforms into large-scale sculptures or into thin, delicate works. Works such as, Walking Men, which aims to inspire fellow citizens to stand up and move forward in the face of hardship, have won the artist numerous awards, including the 2002 and 2008 editions of the Biennale Dak'Art.
