    Tren Phac Duyen, born in 1923 in Hanoi, Vietnam, was a prominent Vietnamese artist of the 20th century. He specialized in lacquer art, graduating from the School of Fine Arts of Indochina in 1945. Moving to France in 1954 to study Fine Arts, he gained recognition for his work that bridged Eastern and Western influences. His artistry evolved from figurative and decorative styles to minimalist abstraction, elevating Vietnamese lacquer to a significant art form. Notably, a lacquer screen painted by Duyen was gifted by the Vietnamese government to Pope Pius XII in 1950, enhancing his public recognition.
