    Nicanor Piñole was a Spanish artist born in an unknown year. He studied at the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid and participated in the Great End of the Century Exhibition held by the Gijón City Council. He traveled to Paris and Rome in 1901 and settled in Gijón upon his return. He was a favorite son of Asturias and a corresponding academic of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. He was known for his realism in oil painting and watercolor. He was honored with an exhibition at the Jovellanos Museum in Gijón on the occasion of the centenary of his birth. Piñole is represented in the Museum that bears his name in Gijón.
