    Nicholas Chevalier (b. 1828 /d. 1902)

    Nicholas Chevalier was born on May 9, 1828 in St. Petersburg, Russia. His father was from Switzerland and his mother was from Russia.

    In 1845, Chevalier and his father left Russian and moved to Switzerland. It was here at Lausanne, Switzerland, Chevalier began to study painting and architecture and later he studied in Munich.

    In 1951, he moved to London where Chevalier was an apprentice to lithographer VV.H.L. Gruner. Studying as a lithographer changed the course of Chevalier's career. While living in London, he worked in illustrations, lithography and watercolors. Chevalier exhibited two landscapes in the Royal Academy in 1852.
