Nicolaes Lachtropius - Artist Info

About Nicolaes Lachtropius

  • Biography

Nicolaes Lachtropius was an artist active in Amsterdam in the latter half of the 17th century. He specialised in flower still lifes and so-called sous-bois still lifes in the manner of Marseus van Schrieck. His still lifes are often mistaken for those of Willem van Aelst, and this was also the case with the present work in the past. We would like to thank Fred Meijer for providing an attribution to Lachtropius, confirming the ascription given to the work when it was sold at Christie's in 1981 and at Lempertz in 1982.
