    Nicolas-Henri Jeaurat de Bertry was born in 1728 in Paris, France and died in 1796. He was a Parisian painter who stood out for his still lifes, although at the end of his career he cultivated landscapes and portraits. Niclas belonged to the generation after Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin (1699 - 1779), who influenced him remarkably in his work. He was a disciple of Etienne Jeaurat and a member of the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in 1756. In 1761 he was appointed painter to Queen Maria Leszczynska, consort of Louis XV. He then settled in Versailles until his death.
