    Niklas Lafrensen, also known as Nicolas Lavreince or Lavrince, was a Swedish draftsman and painter born in Stockholm in 1737. He was the son of the Swedish miniaturist Niclas Lafrensen dit le Vieux, and became a pupil of his father.

    Lafrensen initially focused on miniature painting before moving to Paris in 1771, where he painted small portraits in watercolor and oil. He was appointed a member of the Academy of Stockholm and court painter in 1773, but returned to Paris in 1774. There, he produced many drawings of rococo style intended to serve as models for engravers, inspired by the cheerful and graceful spirit of the end of the Ancien Régime.
