    Nicolas Robert was a French artist who worked for Gaston, Duke of Orléans, and later for Louis XIV. He designed rare plants in the garden of the Château de Blois and made vellums for the King and other private sponsors, taking his models from the Menagerie of Versailles and the Royal Garden of Paris. He became the ordinary painter of the King for the miniature and surrounded himself with many students including Claude Aubriet. His drawings can be found in many museums, including the Museum of Natural History in Paris, which has the collection of vellums of Louis XIV.
