    Orlando Pelayo was one of the most internationally successful Asturian artists of the 20th century and one of the most representative of the Spanish School of Paris painters. Pelayo exhibited individually in prestigious galleries in Oran, Algiers, Paris, Sweden, Tokyo, Munich and, of course, Spain.

    He was born in Gijón and spent most of his life in Algeria. Pelayo became friendly with Albert Camus. He illustrated his original lithographs in the Literary Essays of Camus.

    After WWII Orlando Pelayo moved to Paris, where he was warmly welcomed by the considerable colony of exiled Spanish artists who clustered around Picasso.
