From 1919 he worked in his hometown as a painter and writer, where he became acquainted with the circle around Herwarth Walden, one of the main promoters of German avant-garde and husband of Else Lasker-Schüler. In 1933 he emigrated to Switzerland, where he first settled in Muntelier and later in Berne. During a stay in Italy 1937/38 the picturesque Epic series work Mustaraya was born.
