In the summer he used to go to the Yorkshire coast where he bought a cottage in Robin Hoods Bay and was elected as a member of the famous Staithes School in 1904. In the early part of the twentieth century, Owen Bowen visited Holland where he painted a number of coastal and windmill scenes. While he was there he became seriously ill, but survived and lived on into his nineties.
