    Pang Zhao, also known as Pang Zuoyu, graduated from the Shanghai Art College in 1934, after learning from Xue Xu Qing Teng, Chen Baiyang and Cheng Man-ching to paint flowers. She was a female artist known for her bird-and-flower paintings in a gongbi* or very precise style.

    Zhao was born in Wuxing, Zhejiang province, but was based in Shanghai. Her uncle Pang Laichen (or Pang Xuzhai) was a famous collector, from whose collection she was able to study many traditional masterpieces by making copies.

    After Liberation, she became a professional painter in the China Academy of Painting in Shanghai. In 1969 she was beaten down as an anti-revolutionist and committed suicide.
