Their son Ara died soon after birth and Paul painted several paintings as a tribute to him. Emmanuel, Jean-Paul and Manuella became painters, making a name of their own in the art world.

In 1956, he won the first prize of the Italian Biennial, which led him to a scholarship to study at the Academia di Belle Arti di Firenze, The Academy of Fine Arts of Florence.
From 1961 to 1962, he studied in Paris on a scholarship from the French government, and then he returned to Lebonon. From 1989 to 1991, he again lived in Paris and painted some of his largest masterpieces for his solo art show in 1992 at the Institute du Monde Arab.
