    Paul Vogler was the son of a painter and painted buildings before he became an artist. He was a self-taught artist that never attended a fine art school or academy and did not work in a studio.

    He was strongly influenced by Sisley and adopted his technique and palette. Sisley did not provide formal instruction to Vogler but did act as a mentor to the less experienced artist. As noted by his contemporaries, Vogler possessed an ease and sensibility in his painting.

    His liberal application of color earned him a place in the ranks of the Impressionist landscape painters and he had many fervent admirers among it's early collectors....
