In 1930 he entered the State Art Academy, and then it did not take long before he noted himself in the Norwegian sculpture environment. Early, he made his appearance in sculpture contests. The prize was applicable to model modeling, but the jury could not imagine the idea itself. Then, in 1939, he won in the contest for a monument in Drammen over the skate Thorleif Haug.
