    Born in Poole, Philip Sutton was educated at the Slade School of Fine Art and is best known for his colourful portrayal of landscapes and still life scenes. 'Israeli Landscape' (1951-52), like many of his other earlier works, highlights the influence of Matisse on the artist's bold use of colour. Sutton had his first solo show at Roland, Browse & Delbanco in 1956 and his works were featured in retrospectives at the Leeds City Art Gallery and the Royal Academy...
