    Pierre Ayot was born in Montreal in 1943. He graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal and taught there from 1964 to 1972, before teaching at the Université de Québec à Montreal until 1995.

    In 1966, he founded l'Atelier Libre 848, a collective studio, which subsequently became Graff. He was also one of the founding members of the group, Média, gravures et multiples. His works, primarily related to printmaking practice, arose from Pop Art and the animation of Albert Dumouchel, two phenomena from which he culled the key aspects before exceeding them in all directions, producing sculpture, painting and aural- and visual installation.
