About Pietro Paolo Raggi

  • Biography

Pietro Paolo Raggi was an Italian painter who represented Genoese Baroque style in the second half of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century. He was most likely trained in the studio of Gioacchino Assereto and influenced by Pietro Giovanni Battista Langetti. His work is compared to the last period of Guido Reni, with the treatment of light somewhere between Guido Canlassi Cagnacci and Guerchin. Raggi's elegance of drapery anticipates the canons of neoclassical Italian art. His corpus of cabinet and chiaroscuro works is still unexplored. Raggi remains a major artist of Genoese art awaiting his monograph.
