    Italian painter, watercolorist and printmaker disciple and close friend of Mariano Fortuny, Joris received academic training under Edoardo Pastina, a landscape painter from Naples and Achille Vertunni with whom he traveled.

    Reputed to be one of the best Roman painters of the late 19th century with a style that combines authentic realism and a soft, glittering touch, he mainly painted scenes of the emerging bourgeoisie but also some historical subjects such as the escape of Pope Eugene IV, preserved in the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome.

    Influenced by the French impressionist world, he made many trips to Paris, having a relationship with the art dealer Adolphe Goupil from 1868 to 1875....
