    Piraji Sagara was born in 1931 in Ahmedabad, India. He belonged to the Sagara community from Rajasthan, known for their expertise in woodwork. Sagara trained at the Sir J.J. School of Art, Bombay, and later taught at the School of Architecture in Ahmedabad. He is known for his distinctive 'wood collages' that elevate the craft traditions of his ancestors to high art. His work has been exhibited in Europe, Japan, and India, including the 1971 Sao Paulo Biennale. The artwork 'Homage to D.H. Lawrence' pays tribute to the English novelist and poet D.H. Lawrence, and nods to the social impact of his depiction of free-spirited, forbidden women...
