The delicate color harmony that Prosanto Roy achieved through water color, was used by him in geometrical, hard-lined figuration with a fine sense of design, both in his paintings of mural dimension and in those of smaller formats. He chose his themes from fairy tales, leading the eyes of the viewers through mysterious mazes of geometrical color and light areas.

His schooling began at the age of 13 at the Brahmacharya Ashram in Santiniketan under Rabindranath Tagore, later his schooling in art was taken up by Abanindranath Tagore and Gaganendranath Tagore in their Jorasanko house in Calcutta.
