Zhao PuChu (Puchu) was born on on November 5, 1907 in Anqing, Anhui province. He studied at Suzhou Dongwu University, Suzhou University today. In 1928, he served as the secretary of Jiangsu-Zhejiang Buddhism Joint Association in Shanghai, secretary of Shanghai Buddhism Society, president of Shanghai Pure Karma Society, and president of Siming Bank. In 1945, he started to establish the Chinese Association for Promoting Democracy.
