About Qixiang Zong

  • Biography

    Zong Qixiang was a painter in both traditional and modern style from the province of Jiangsu. He studied at the National Central University (Guoli zhongyang daxue) and in 1946 became teacher at the National Academy of Art in Peking (Guoli meishu xuexiao). After 1949 he joined the People's Liberation Army and did many paintings describing the revolutionary struggle.

    In the Cultural Revolution he was labeled 'black artist', rehabilitated only in 1977. He became quite famous again and painted many large murals in tourist hotels and airports.
