    Ralph W. Burton (1905 - 1983)

    Ralph Wallace Burton was born in Newington, Ontario and lived in the Ottawa, Ontario region most of his life. His medium was primarily oil on panel, often sketch box size because he did a lot of plein air work. His subjects were landscapes and people and buildings in landscapes. His style was Canadian expressionist much influenced by his friend and sketching companion A.Y.Jackson (1882 - 1974).

    He studied art in Ottawa and in Paris under the Charles Geoffrey de Chaume (early 1920's). He also attended the Banff School of Fine Arts (1947), where he met A.Y.Jackson. He taught adult art classes on Ottawa. He served in the R.C.A.F. in World War II. He also traveled t...
