    Ramón Gaya was a Spanish painter and writer who spent his youth in Madrid and Paris. During the Spanish Civil War, he went to Mexico and stayed there until 1952. He then moved to Rome and returned to Spain in 1960. In the 1960s, he traveled around Spain and wrote his book "Velázquez, lonely bird" which was published in 1969. In 1984, a retrospective exhibition was dedicated to him at the San Pío V Museum in Valencia, and in 1985 he was awarded the Gold Medal for Fine Arts by the Ministry of Culture.
