Rashid Rana was born in 1968 in Lahore, Pakistan. He graduated with a B.F.A. from National College of Arts, Lahore in 1992 and an M.F.A. from the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston in 1994. Initially trained as a painter, in recent years Rana has been one of the pioneers of new media art in Pakistan. His work has been shown in London, Geneva, Shanghai, New York and New Delhi. He has participated in important group shows of contemporary Pakistani art including "Beyond Borders: Art of Pakistan," at Mumbai's National Gallery of Modern Art, and "Playing with a Loaded Gun: Contemporary Art in Pakistan," at the Kunsthalle Fridericianum, in Kassel Germany, and in at Apexart in New York, among others.
