    R. Wilson Hammell

    Funeral services for R. Wilson Hammell of 1658 Centre street. Newton Highlands, were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Newton Highlands Congregational Church. Burial was in the Newton Cemetery.

    Mr. Hammell died at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 23. He was in his 53rd year and was born in Newton. He served during World War II and following his discharge from the service studied at the Fenway School of Illustration.

    From 1920 to 1940 he was a free-lance commercial artist specializing in calendar subjects, and also did a number of paintings for the national advertising of a large cigarette concern. Since 1940 he had been engaged in portrait work in pastels and oils.
