About Reid Crowell

    Reid Kendrick Crowell was best known for his work in illustration as a graphic artist, and he was also a wood carver and teacher, holding a position at the Dallas Art Institute from 1929 to 1934.

    Crowell was born in Alta, Iowa in 1911. His mother, Grace Noll Crowell, was a talented writer and from 1936 to 1939, was Poet Laureate of Texas.

    He received his art training in Minnesota, Colorado, and at the Dallas Art Institute. At the Institute Crowell studied under Olin Travis, Ruby Stone, Charles McCann, Howard Shoup, and Karl Gasslander, after winning an honorary scholarship. Later, he taught at the Dallas Art Institute.
