    French painter, watercolourist, draughtsman and poster artist, René Pean produced numerous posters for the world of show business and entertainment. His oil paintings, watercolours and pastels take up fashionable themes: classical or Spanish dancers, landscapes, views of Montmartre, scenes of gallantry, but also portraits or family scenes.

    In 1889, he became an apprentice lithographer in Jules Chéret's workshop. In 1891, he also studied lithography at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. At Chaix, his production of posters for the theatre, tourism, department stores, modern manufactured products, is abundant: about 150 posters between 1895 and 1913.
