    René Seyssaud (1867-1952) was a Provençal painter, precursor of Fauvism. Although a child of a Vauclusian family, he was born on June 15, 1867 in Marseilles where his father was a lawyer. At his father's death, he joined his grandparents at Avignon, and they enrolled him in fine art classes in Avignon where he studied with Pierre Grivolas.

    Seyssaud is noted for his powerful temperament and bold palette with bright colors, which makes him present as a forerunner of Fauvism. His first major exhibition took place in 1892 at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris. Then he had first exhibitions at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Tuileries.
