    Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Renina Katz was a painter, designer of labels, illustrator, printmaker, and teacher. He attended the National School of Fine Arts-
    Enba in Rio de Janeiro Brazil between 1947 and 1950. Among the teachers was Henry Cavalleiro.

    Katz received certification in design from the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Brazil, and then started to do woodcut with teacher Axl von Leskoschek. His woodcuts have realistic character, with much contrast between black and white. Katz also learned engraving at the School of Arts and Crafts in Rio de Janeiro from Carlos Oswald.
