Belgium artist Rene Barbaix lived from 1909-1966. Barbaix is mostly self-taught, however, he was a student of the Industrial School of Schaerbeek and the Academy of Saint-Josse-ten-Node. Rene Barbaix began with with allegorical compositions in 1935 which were done in the spirit of Wiertz. In contact with the artistic avant-garde during the Second World War, he later exhibited at the Salon. He co-founded Young Belgian painting. Barbaix was a member of the National Council of Plastic Arts in 1953. He received a scholarship to Spain in 1954 and one to France in 1955....
